Question 1 of 4
Look at the veins on your inner wrist in daylight. What color are they?
Cool, warm and neutral undertones
Your undertone is the color beneath the surface of your skin. It stays the same when you tan, which is why it matters for foundation and color.
- Neutral undertone
- Your skin has a balance of cool and warm undertones, so both pink- and yellow-based shades can work. Shades labeled neutral are a safe start.
- Cool undertone
- Your skin has pink, red or bluish undertones. Shades with pink or rosy bases and silver tones tend to look most natural on you.
- Warm undertone
- Your skin has yellow, peach or golden undertones. Shades with yellow or golden bases and gold tones tend to look most natural on you.
Questions about the undertone test
What is the difference between skin tone and undertone?
Skin tone is how light or deep your skin is, and it changes with the sun. Undertone is the cool, warm or neutral color beneath it, and it stays the same.
Does the vein test work?
It is a useful hint but not a sure answer on its own, which is why the quiz combines it with three other questions.
What does a neutral undertone mean?
It means your skin has a balance of cool and warm, so both pink-based and yellow-based shades can work. Shades labeled neutral are a good place to start.
Is this a professional color analysis?
No. It is a short self-assessment that points you in a direction. It is not a diagnosis or professional advice.
